BLAKE STIMSON, “Decolonization and Contemporary Art”
Art History Colloquium
January 22, 2021
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Contemporary art was born of decolonization and its righteous demand that we hold ourselves accountable to the expropriated labor that created modernity. This talk considers the circumstances that gave rise to this new ideal and the cost to the project of human freedom that it bears.
Blake Stimson, Professor of Art History at UIC, is completing a book titled Seeing Like a State: Paul Strand and Decolonization.
