Nicoletta Rousseva
PhD, 2022: Modern and Contemporary Art
About
Nicoletta received her PhD in Art History from UIC in 2022. Her dissertation Bad Comrades: Art and Answerability after Socialism examines how contemporary artists in former Yugoslavia and Albania have responded to the collapse of socialism by investigating art’s fraught role in socialist era-institutions and leftist politics. More broadly, her research interests include art and bureaucracy, histories of socialism and liberalism in the twentieth century, Frankfurt School critical theory, and film.
Before beginning her studies at UIC, Nicoletta received B.A. and M.A degrees in Art History at the University of California, Davis.
