The Department of Art History is delighted to welcome Dr. Macarena Deij Prado as Visiting Lecturer in Arts of the Americas for the 2024-25 academic year.
Dr. Deij Pardo has just received her PhD from the Department of Art History at the University of Florida. Her dissertation, "Negotiating the Colonial Order: Art and Spanish American Religious Processions 1570–1630," examined religious processions in Spain's American colonies between 1570 and 1630. Dr. Deij Prado explains that her research analyzes "case studies from colonial Mexico, Bolivia, and Colombia, revealing how Indigenous groups used art in the context of religious processions to contest Spanish hegemony across viceregal Spanish America."
In the fall, Dr. Deij Prado will be offering AH 180: Introduction to Museum Studies, AH 263: Latin American Colonial Art, and AH 470: Topics in Indigenous American Art, Architecture, and Visual Culture.
Welcome to UIC, Professor Deij Prado!
