UIC Art History seeks an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Spring 2020

University of Illinois at Chicago’s Department of Art History seeks to hire an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Art History beginning in January 2020. The successful applicant will complement the existing strengths of the department in any non-western field, preferably specializing in ancient or medieval time periods. Applicants who specialize in Near and Middle Eastern, Islamic, Persian, African, Central or East Asian art and architecture are especially encouraged to apply, although other candidates will also be considered. The Department of Art History has a growing strength in museum studies and cultural heritage, with its BA minor in Museum and Exhibition Studies. Candidates whose research interests align with the politics of cultural heritage and repatriation will receive special attention. The department seeks scholars who are committed to recent theoretical perspectives and critical engagement with current debates in the field. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, theoretical fluency, and research interests that complement current faculty strengths.

The successful candidate will teach two specialized courses in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, one lower-level lecture course and one upper-level seminar. Other teaching duties may also include contributing guest lectures to a team-taught undergraduate lecture course and offering graduate advising.
