School of Art & Art History recently participated in the Art Institute of Chicago's University Partner Fest on Saturday February 15th, 11 am-5 pm, through the work of our students who generously offered Gallery Spotlight Talks and Gallery Activation.
Three stellar students from the School of Art & Art History participated in the student art talks and gallery activation. Anneliese Hardman, a Phd Candidate in Art History, activated the Arts of Asia (Gallery 140-142) with a title "Stories of Enlightenment: Buddha Enthroned on a Serpent and other Divine Beings." Anneliese engaged gallery visitors by discussing "Who is Buddha, and how can we recognize him?" addressing questions and using storytelling, hand gestures, and comparative critical looking, to consider values presented in the Cambodian Statue, Buddha Enthroned on a Serpent, and its surrounding Buddhist statuary. In the meantime, Zack Martin, a Phd Candidate in Art History, activated the Arts of Africa (Gallery 137) speaking about "Lidded Box" (a Mangbetu or Zande Box from the Ule region, Democratic Republic of the Congo). Marla Chinbat, BFA majoring in Studio Arts did a Gallery spotlight talk on John Currin’s Stamford after Brunch in the Contemporary Art Gallery 296.
Our presenters were brilliant, engaging, and enlightening, and made our School really proud! AIC galleries were packed all day that Saturday! We are grateful to Anneliese, Zack and Marla for contributing to this success by enlivening the AIC galleries with their caring and thoughtful presentations. As a modest thank you for their contribution to this important event, the School of Art & Art History awarded them with modest honoraria.
