Please join The 5th Floor Gallery on Friday, September 6th, 2019, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to celebrate the opening of CASA. Light refreshments will be served.

The 5th Floor Gallery is located at 400 S. Peoria Street, Chicago, IL 60607; on the fifth floor of UIC's Art and Exhibition Hall (AEH).

CASA is an exhibition curated by UIC Art History undergraduate Kayleigh Doyen that explores Latinx perceptions of “home" in the context of the Latin diaspora. Featured artists Juan Arango-Palacios, Lissette Bustamante, Andrea Reyes, Moises Salazar, and Eva Serrato analyze the complex intersections of their identities-- addressing themes such as the forging of cultural identity in predominantly white areas; nostalgia for a country their parents called home; disconnect between family members with heteronormative ideals of gender and sexuality; and inherited family trauma from migration, assimilation, and oppression. CASA is a bilingual exhibition.

The exhibition runs from August 26 through December 5, 2019. The 5th Floor Gallery is open to the public Monday-Thursday from 12:00pm through 2:00pm and Friday 12:00pm-6:00pm.
