PhD Student Ayrika Hall has curated the inaugural exhibition at Evoke, Materialized Visions: Black Figurative Traditions in Chicago, opening this Saturday, March 30th. Materialized Visions explores the ways in which contemporary black artists continue to engage with and evolve the discipline of figurative art through a range of mediums including painting, sculpture, textile, and archival material.

The artists featured in the exhibition include Langston Allston, Lisa DeAbreu, Kimmah Dennis, Delisha McKinney, Jeff Rivers, Queen Hibbler, Hex Parsons, October Garner, and Kenya Moffett-Garner.

There will be an opening reception for the show this Saturday, March 30th starting at 5:00 p.m. at Evoke Chicago (located 3304 N. Knox Ave, Chicago, IL 60641). The reception will feature refreshments, music (DJ Leah Damte), and a panel featuring myself and cultural historian/activist Jada-Amina beginning at 8:00 p.m.
