Edited volume Contextualizing Pompeiopolis Urban Development in Roman Anatolia from a Comparative Perspective, co-edited by Visiting Assistant Professor Peri Johnson, alongside with Julia M. Koch and Lâtife Summerer (2025) is published by De Gruyter Brill.
After the Pontic Kingdom’s defeat and northern Anatolia’s integration into the Roman Empire in 64/63 BCE, the region experienced an urban transformation. The victorious Pompey founded Pompeiopolis as one of seven new cities. This book publishes seminal fieldwork conducted at Pompeiopolis (2006–2016) with comparative studies on Roman cities that lays the groundwork for future research on the development of urban landscapes in the Roman East.
Apart from serving as one of the editors of this influential volume, Peri Johnson has also contributed with a chapter titled "Comparative Imperialisms: Pompeiopolis and the Organization of the Taşköprü Basin (ca. 5000 BCE – 500 CE)" (pages 23-64) (© 2025 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston, Genthiner Straße 13, 10785 Berlin).
Congratulations Peri Johnson!
