Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I'm pleased to share my newly published article in The Bulwark, a pro-democracy platform for news and analysis on politics and popular culture, which proposes a path through the current crisis at the Smithsonian, with lessons for museums everywhere.
This is a companion to last year's Chronicle of Higher Education piece, in which I argue for the civic value of teaching and studying art history.
The general thread here is that these institutions for looking at and thinking about art and objects are important to the health of our democracy. Thanks in advance for reading.
