Joshua Gomez reviews the exhibition Traitor, Survivor, Icon: The Legacy of Malinche in Hyperallergic
PhD Student Joshua Gomez has had his review of the exhibition Traitor, Survivor, Icon: The Legacy of Malinche published in Hyperallergic.
The Legacy of La Malinche is the first comprehensive examination of La Malinche, the Indigenous woman who translated for Hernan Cortés during the Spanish invasion of central Mexico. The New Mexico show brought together over 60 artists, both Mexican and Mexican-American, to critically analyze Malinche's ongoing appropriation across history. I reviewed the second iteration of the show which opened on June 11th. The show was curated by Terezita Romo and Victoria Lyall, originating at the Denver Art Museum, it will travel to San Antonio for its final stop this year.
The review can be found here. Congratulations, Josh!
