JANET DEES: “Curating Difficult Knowledge”

April 12, 2019

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Aono-2017-TheNailThatSticksUpTheFarthest

Location

Henry Hall 106

Address

935 W Harrison St., Chicago, IL 60612

This talk will reflect on Dees’s 2017 exhibition "If You Remember, I'll Remember" and her forthcoming 2021 exhibition provisionally entitled  "A Site of Struggle: Making Meaning of Anti-black Violence in American Art and Visual Culture.” These case studies demonstrate her interest over the last several years in art that engages with U.S. histories that may be perceived as difficult and the considerations of presenting this work in the art museum, especially  at a time of heightened social and political tensions.

Janet Dees is the Steven and Lisa Munster Tananbaum Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum, Northwestern University
